What is Moringa
Moringa Uses
Moringa has been around for centuries as a whole food or a supplement. It originates from the foothills of the Himalayas. And now is grown throughout Asia and Africa.
The tree is a fast growing tree to a height of around 12 meters, that is drought and pest resistant. It can tolerate poor quality soils, but for best results in the end product good soil means good product. With good soil and good fertilization the tree grows incredibly fast with new leaf growth daily.
Moringa responds well to pruning. If unpruned the young trees are long and weak and tend to lean over or break. With heavy pruning the tree becomes bushy and thick with new leaf growth. A Moringa tree requires well drained soil and if left in water it will die quickly.
The tree can be grown from its seeds. Cuttings are an excellent way to grow Moringa, but they don't like to be transplanted and have a fragile tap root.
Moringa is a sub-tropical to tropical plant. If temperatures drop below 18 degrees celsius the leaves will drop.
The Moringa tree has many varieties but the one used for the food and supplement market is Moringa Oleifera.
